Monte track wins hardware at Twilight meet
Two event wins in the boys meet and a solid top-eight punch in both the boys and the girls meets allowed Montesano to grab some team hardware at the Kalama Twilight meet on Friday.
Tanner Birdsall won the 100-meter sprint and was the leadoff runner in the winning 4x100-meter relay team to power Montesano to a second-place team finish. Evergreen (Vancouver) won the boys meet.
The Montesano girls team finished in third place in the girls meet despite not winning a single event. Battle Ground won the meet, with Evergreen second overall.
Birdsall tied Evergreen’s Ray Green at 11.29 seconds in the preliminary heats of the 100, then won going away in the championship finals at 11.40. Birdsall, along with Anthony Louthan, Reed Hughes and Tristan Darst, were easy winners in the 4x100 relay at 44.85.
Darst took second overall in the 200-meter sprint and the javelin, with Connor Lovell second in the 1,600 and Isaiah Pellegrino going 2-3 in the shot put and discus, respectively.
The girls team grabbed its share of top finishes as well, with three Bulldogs — Myranda Floch, Jennifer Johnson and Shayla Floch — going 3-4-5 in the 100-meter final. Shayla Floch was second in the 200 and the high jump and her older sister, Myranda Floch, took second in the triple jump and 400.
Andrea Ostwald and Gabrielle Rudolph traded 2-3 finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200 races, respectively. Jordan Spradlin also finished with a second (shot put) and third (discus).
