Elma senior Todd Swinhart gets waved home by coach Scott Rowland to score one of the 21 runs the Eagles recorded against Rainier on Monday.

The Elma High School baseball team took care of business to start a busy week on Monday. The Eagles (9-5, 7-5) grabbed the first game of a doubleheader against Rainier 11-1 and finished the sweep, 10-3, in the second game.

“Our pitchers threw strikes, we had good defense and our hitters generated runs,” coach Scott Rowland said.

With three games on the schedule for the rest of the week with a matchup against Tenino on Tuesday and a doubleheader against Forks Thursday, Elma sent a total of seven different pitchers to the mound with five different pitchers in each game. Austin Neary and Nick Camenzind picked up the wins for the Eagles with each pitcher working only three innings.

Elma was led on offense by senior Ricky Escalante who went 5-7 at the plate with five RBIs.

Elma is currently in fourth place in the Evergreen 1A league, one game behind Hoquiam. The rest of the week will be key to whether Elma has a chance to contend for a place in the district tournament.
