Elma athletes win golds at Activators meet
Elma tracksters shined at the Chehalis Activators meet on Saturday.
Elma’s boys place third in the primary team competition at the annual two-day meet.
Senior Ray Stark handily won his specialty, the boys 300 hurdles, with a time of 40.24 seconds. He also edged Hoquiam’s Devin Kelly for the first time this season in the 100 meters, which he covered in 11.45.
The senior also came from third place on the anchor lap to give Elma a victory in the 4x400-meter relay. He combined with Rashad Lorton, Tyson Nauman and Chance Bremer to post a winning time of 3 minutes and 36.11 seconds. Nauman bettered his previous personal record by some three feet in winning the boys triple jump at 43 feet 2 1/2 inches.
Elma junior Bethany Lipska had an outstanding day, winning the girls high jump and finishing second in the triple jump. Elma assistant coach Bryan Schneider also cited Lorton for his performance in the relay and long jump.
“We had a lot of kids step it up,” Schneider said. “Mostly, I was proud of our 4x400. They were tired and gutted it out.”
