I would like to acknowledge a local group of quiet volunteers who give of their time, week after week, as local Grays Harbor Red Cross Disaster Action Team members. As part of the Rainer Chapter, these dedicated local volunteers have responded to a record eight house or apartment fires this past month here on the harbor. In addition, they provided support to the Taylor Bridge Fire that devastated parts of Kittitas County. (As the fire is contained, the Red Cross is transitioning to support longer-term needs). The Disaster Team members met with the affected residents (often in the middle of the night) to provide comfort and to help plan for the future.
If needed, financial assistance was available for emergency items such as food, clothing, bedding, linens, emergency housing such as a motel room. The Team Members were able to help several residents coordinate with local
government and other Grays Harbor relief organizations.
For those you have helped this month and haven’t the means to say it, thank you for the quiet way you all do what you do.
