Jeers to teachers who include tabloid talk shows as part of their curriculum. A recent lawsuit filed against the Elma School District states that a teacher was showing students an episode of “The Maury Povich Show” dealing with the topic of paternity. The lawsuit talks about prejudice and intolerance. Those are very important issues that we don’t want to discount. But, seriously, WHY would a teacher even think about showing “The Maury Povich Show” to students? What possible amount of intelligent thought could come out of listening to guests talk about “baby daddies?” District officials cast their doubt that the incident happened. We sure hope this didn’t happen. But if there’s any truth to it, we really just wanted to put it out there that we see no educational value to “The Maury Povich Show” — or any other tabloid talk show. At all.
Cheers to the Grays Harbor Raceway. Steve Beitler, who also operates the speedway in Skagit County, has wasted no time in setting up a schedule for the Raceway that includes eight dates for a “Summer Thunder Sprint Series” as well as the return of the popular World of Outlaws, set for Sept. 1. This is a great start for a raceway that has become an economic engine for the Elma area. When the races are in town, fans go to local restaurants, stay in the motel and the RV Park, and shop in local businesses. Let’s all cross our fingers that it works out.
