Joan Edgcomb Mitchell, 82, of Montesano passed away peacefully Monday, June 16, 2014, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital with her loving husband at her side.
Joan was born June 27, 1931, to Guy and Helen (Tomlinson) Edgcomb and raised in Los Angeles, California. She also lived in Escalon, California. On Sept. 1, 1950. Joan married Malcolm L. Mitchell and together they raised three sons and one daughter.
Joan was employed by Gallo Winery from 1975 to 1990 as manager of market research. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Aberdeen and held the offices of senior warden, junior warden, part-time secretary and chairman of Episcopal Church Women.
Joan and her husband Malcolm moved to the area in November of 1990. She loved visual arts, enjoyed cross stitch, was an avid reader and loved traveling.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Guy T. Edgcomb. She is survived by her loving husband, Malcolm L Mitchell of Montesano; her daughter, Gail M. Loken of Anchorage, Alaska; and three sons, Todd Mitchell of Fair Oaks, California; Brian Mitchell of Carlsbad by the Sea, California, and Scott Mitchell of Tracy, California, and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in her honor to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
There will be a celebration of her life at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church 400 E. 1st St. in Aberdeen at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, with a reception following.
