Jessie May Gross, a lifelong Grays Harbor resident, passed-away on Thursday, August 1, 2013, in Aberdeen. She was 90. Jessie was born in Aberdeen on October 13, 1922, to Roy and Agnes (McAllister) MacDonald. She grew up in North River, Aberdeen and Montesano and is a graduate of Weatherwax High School’s Class of 1941.
Jessie married Richard Gross in Aberdeen in 1941. During World War II, she and her husband lived and worked in Hayward, Calif. at the shipyards. He preceded her in death in 1979.
In addition to being a homemaker, Jessie worked as a secretary for Price and Price Insurance in Montesano for 30 years. She was a member of the Aberdeen Elks and was involved in Grays Harbor 4H and Montesano Little League. Jessie was an avid bowler. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and sewing. She was a caregiver to family and friends, volunteered at the Montesano Food Bank and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Jessie is survived by two sons, Richard (Joan) Gross of Elma and Harold Gross of Montesano; as well as grandsons, David and Dan Gross and great-grandson, Levi Gross. She is also survived by her brother, Roy McDonald of Pine, Ariz. and sister, Violet Boxx of Camano Island. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; sister, Levenia Merrill; and her daughter-in-law, Vickie.
Graveside services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Wynooche Cemetery in Montesano. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s or dementia related causes.
