Ellen Deon Shiflett

Ellen Deon Shiflett of Olympia passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2014.

She was born on August 11, 1936, in Vernal Utah to Newell and Opal Behunin. Deon graduated from Vernal High School in 1953 and married William H. Shiflett on Jan. 27, 1954.

Deon was a beloved member of the Grays Harbor and Thurston county areas and could be found regularly at the senior center in Olympia, the food co-op or chatting with friends at the Hacienda apartments where she lived. Earlier in life, she was very active in the bowling industry and then moved into the retail grocery business when living in Montesano. Along with being an avid gardener, she was a member at the Montesano, Elma and Olympia VFWs and Eagles. Deon would always lend a helping hand and words of encouragement. Her wit and sense of humor made lifelong impressions on many people.

She is survived by three children, Bill Shiflett (Jennifer) of Fort Worth, Texas, John Shiflett (Judy) of Olympia, and Barb Ferrier (Edgar) of McCleary; her two siblings, Nola Durall of Mapleton, Utah, and Kehl Behunin of Little Rock, Arkansas, and by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. We will all miss her.

A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, June 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Olympia Doubletree hotel at 415 Capitol Way North, Olympia, Washington, 98501.
