Donald Lee Slater, born January 30, 1944, to Robert Slater and Virginia Azerski Slater, passed away at his residence in McCleary, Wash., on July 8, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Slater, and is survived by a son and daughter, his stepmother; Grace, one sister, a half-brother and three half-sisters, along with many relatives and friends.
He was employed by the Simpson Timber Co. and served with the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.
Don enjoyed nature and the fine arts and had an eye for beautiful objects, whether inanimate or natural and often spoke of the wonderful adventures he had while on duty in Germany.
His talent for drawing and sculpting was outstanding and restoring vintage cars was his passion.
Daily rides on his bike, around the community, occured like clockwork, and he is truly missed. Rest in peace, Don.
A big thanks to all who contributed and participated in the Don Slater Memorial Fundraiser. It was truly a “McCleary Day”.
Don’s burial service, with military salute, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014 at the McCleary Cemetary. Following the graveside service, a reception and time of sharing will be held at the Old McCleary Hotel on Summit Road. Everyone is welcome to attend.
