Elma students of the month

Elma High School Students of the Month are selected by the Elma-McCleary Lions Club.

The May recipients are junior Sydney Smythe and senior Justin Fomento, each receiving a $25 award.

Sydney Smythe, the daughter of Teri & Brad Smythe of Elma, is a member of the Elma soccer, basketball, and fastpitch teams. She lettered in all three sports. She’s also involved in ASB and Honor Society, where she was vice president.

“Sydney is a quiet leader who leads by example with a smile. One of her strengths is her ability not to get rattled.” Rick Rakevich, Athletic Director.

She plans to attend college to become a registered nurse and wants to continue playing soccer.

Justin Fomento, the son of Jessica and Tom Wolf of Elma, is a Skills USA National competitor in welding fabrication. He enjoys working on trucks and enjoying the outdoors.

“Justin is one of my star seniors who is very responsible and hard working,” said Dave Rutherford, Skills USA Advisor and Ag Shop Teacher.

His future plans include completing an apprenticeship program and becoming a pipe fitter.
