Elma students fare well at skills competition

Elma High School SkillsUSA members competed at the annual Washington State Leadership and Skills Conference in Tacoma April 17 through 19.

Elma’s Mobile Robotics team of Cody Williams and Raymond Thomson and its Urban Search and Rescue team of Alexander Lambert and Brand Siverts, each took home first-place trophies in their categories. They will be continuing on and competing at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 23-27. They will be competing against the top 2 percent of teams in the nation as they vie for a national title.

Paige Kershaw placed fifth in the state for in the Job Interview category and 17th in the state for Related Technical Math. Angie Patton placed 10th for Job Interview. Connor Custis placed 14th for Job Interview, as well as, sixth in the state for Related Technical Math. Alexander Lambert placed fourth in the state in the job skill demonstration “A” category.

Travis Walker, Custis, and Michael Warne competed as a team in the welding fabrication contest and placed fourth. The team of Connor Wolfe and Blake Sackrider competed in Urban Search and Rescue, placing second. Mark Reninger and Corbin Wickstrom took fourth in mobile robotics technology.
