Comcast announces scholarships

Jenna G. Mawhorter, a senior at Montesano Junior-Senior High School, is among the 90 recipients of the Comcast Foundation’s annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program awards in Washington state, the Foundation announced.

To date, Comcast has awarded nearly $19 million to nearly 19,000 Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners.

Jenna is the daughter to Judy and Gary Mawhorter.

Among Mawhorter’s impressive past and present accomplishments: volunteer at the Calvary Chapel of Montesano nursery and Vacation Bible School ; vice president of the school’s drama club, drum major of the Montesano High School Band, winner of Best Drum Major 2A Division Parade- Auburn Veterans Day Parade - and member of the Varsity soccer team. At the time of her application, she was planning to study music education at Corban College in Salem, Oregon.

Calvary Chapel Pastor Gerimy West told the Foundation, “Jenna has an amazing rapport with children, and has been very active working with the children’s ministry and has volunteered her time to teach Sunday school classes and also to work in the nursery when needed.”
