WSP says sleeping driver caused crash

The Washington State Patrol believes an Oakville man fell asleep at the wheel before his car ended up rolling in a ditch off State Route 8 Thursday night.

Trenton G. Darnell, 23, was headed west on State Route 8 southeast of McCleary at about 10:50 p.m. when he apparently fell asleep, sending his car off the road and into a ditch, hitting a chainlink fence and a road sign before rolling and coming to rest on its top, the State Patrol reported.

Darnell was transported to Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma. No drugs or alcohol are suspeected, and Darnell was wearing his seat belt. Charges are pending investigation.
