An accident on Highway 12 near Devonshire Road, just west of Montesano, blocked traffic for just more than an hour on Monday and resulted in another accident due to the backup. Just after 1 p.m. Monday, a 19-year-old Montesano woman, Natalie R. O’Connor, was driving eastbound on Highway 12 when she lost control of her 2005 Chevrolet Blazer. As she spun out of control, the vehicle went through a cable barrier and came to rest in the median. An 18-year-old Montesano woman and a 3-year-old, who were passengers, were not injured. The driver was charged with going too fast for the conditions and the vehicle was totaled.
A half hour after that accident, as traffic was backed up while the wreckage was being cleared, A 62-year-old Montesano woman and a truck driver were both driving east as they approached the backup.
As the semi and trailer began to slow, the woman, Viona R. McCleod, went to pass the truck when she saw the traffic and hit her brakes. She lost control of her 1992 Mazda MX3 and slid underneath the trailer, smashing her window and becoming stuck and totaling the car. She was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital in what State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger called “non-life threatening injuries.” She was also charged with driving too fast for the conditions.
The road was blocked for more than an hour following the accident.
