A home on the outskirts of Montesano was damaged by fire Sunday afternoon, Grays Harbor Fire District 2 reported. One of the homeowners suffered minor smoke inhalation, but no serious injuries were reported.
Firefighters responded to the 200 block of Devonshire Road at about 12:20 p.m. Sunday to a report of a garage fire.
“When we arrived, we found an attached garage to the residence there that was fully involved and was starting to extend into the residential portion of the structure,” Chief Leonard Johnson said.
The fire was under control in about an hour, although firefighters stayed on scene about another 3 1/2 monitoring and handling hot spots, Johnson said.
The garage was a total loss, as was a boat parked outside. About 20 percent of the house was damaged by flames and there was extensive smoke damage throughout the rest of the home, Johnson estimated.
“We were able to stop it, though. It didn’t extend to the rest of the house. We were able to save a lot of the possessions,” he added.
Three people were home at the time of the fire, and all were able to leave safely. The smoke inhalation was treated on-scene, no hospital transport was necessary. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
