Surrounded by friends, family and neighbors, the survivor lap kicked off the Relay for Life of East Grays Harbor in Elma Friday evening. The event runs from tonight to Saturday until the final lap at 4 p.m.
At 9:30 p.m., a researcher speaks to the crowd with a luminaria ceremony slated for 10 p.m.
At midnight, there will be a “Mr. Relay” contest with the crowning at 12:30 a.m., Saturday.
Live music starts at 1 a.m. with a poker lap at 1:30 a.m. There’s a three-legged race at 3 a.m., barnyard calls at 6 a.m. and a pajama’s lap at 7 a.m. Participants will use a stick horse to take a friendly “gallop” at 10 a.m. and the Grays Harbor Mounted Posse will join the fun at 11:30 a.m. with a mock “shoot out,” fitting the western theme.
Music by McCleary’s own Brittany Kingery — who has a new CD out — will be at 2 p.m. Final lap is set for 4 p.m. with the closing ceremonies soon after. Everybody should be packed up and headed home by 6 p.m.
