PUD hires new community relations director

Grays Harbor PUD General Manager Dave Ward tapped Ian Cope to be his new communications and government relations director. Cope, a former news director of KXRO, started his job Monday.

“I’m really excited to have Ian on board with with the PUD and look forward to working with him into the future,” Ward said.

Cope worked for KXRO for 12 years. In July of 2011, Cope left the radio business to pursue a career in media relations with the state Senate Democratic Caucus, working for State Sens. Brian Hatfield and Jim Hargrove, among others.

Cope is also a play-by-play radio announcer and says he’ll continue to do football.

“I’m thrilled to be working in Grays Harbor again and to join the great team at the PUD,” Cope said. “It’s so important for the community to understand their power system and know when and why things are happening.”

Cope will make $6,083 per month. The Vidette had to file a public records request to get his salary.
