Montesano City Administrator Kristy Powell has been honored by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada with the group’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the budget Powell prepares for the city. Mayor Ken Estes says this is the third year in a row that Powell has won the honor on behalf of the city.
“Only 1300 cities in the USA and Canada have accomplished this feat,” Estes said. “She deserves our appreciation and congratulations.”
A press release from the international organization states, “The award represents a significant achievement by the entity. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.”
The guidelines include a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
“Budget documents must be rated ‘proficient’ in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award,” the release states.
