Montesano Mayor Ken Estes recognized the efforts of Street Task force chairman Lanny Foss at last week’s City Council meeting.

“During the summer of 2012 and 2013, he walked nearly every street in our city, measuring and recording the width and length, checking for cracks, damage and general condition of those streets,” Estes said. “He did the same for curbs and sidewalks and ADA crosswalks.”

Estes said that for 17 months, Foss worked with members of the mayor’s street task force on the project. Foss, himself, devoted more than 1,000 hours to the project and generated a professional-looking report that can be used in the years to come to help find grants for street repair.

“This has been the most comprehensive and factual survey of our streets system that has ever been done,” Estes said. “At the completion, he has worked it all together in an Excel database that could link with a future survey of every under street pipe condition.”

Estes presented Foss a plaque.

“The value of his devotion to our community far exceeds this small token of our appreciation,” Estes said. “I am continually impressed with the volunteers to this community.”

Foss, in turn, thanked the remaining members of the street task force for their efforts. To view the street inventory go online to http://www.montesano.us/DocumentCenter/View/1834.
