The Montesano post office will participate in the 22nd anniversary of the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive on Saturday, May 10. Each year, on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations — with the donations from Montesano residents going directly to the Montesano Food Bank. Last year, across the country, more than 74 million pounds of food were donated. The Montesano community has always given generously, says local letter carrier Tim Crass, who is spearheading the drive this year.
To participate, just leave a non-perishable food donation by your mailbox on Saturday, May 10, and the letter carrier will pick it up. The timing is geared to help the food banks get more food in the summer time after the huge donation drive of Food Bowl.
The event is hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
