Montesano Mayor Ken Estes awarded the “key to the city” to Lynn Kiser on Friday as she was surrounded by friends, family and fellow volunteers at the Montesano Food Bank. The key was kept a surprise to Kiser until she received it.
Kiser and her family moved to Montesano in 1971 and a few years later, she started volunteering at the Montesano Food Bank. In 1991, she became the food bank coordinator, where she coordinates volunteers, maintains records and is on call to assist families in emergencies. Because she’s been in charge for so long, they call her “Boss Lady” and appropriately put that term on a cake.
“Lynn is truly one of those unique individuals who have given this community a valuable service, all the while flying well below the radar,” Mayor Estes said. “She is truly a remarkable individual, who puts others before herself and has made an enormous difference in the city of Montesano. It is rare to find someone who can stay with a voluntary organization that spans this length of time, without any compensation.”
