An unidentified woman was found on the side of eastbound State Route 12 at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, an apparent victim of a hit-and-run.
Grays Harbor Sheriff Rick Scott said the body was found by a family who stopped just outside Aberdeen near Sargent Boulevard because one of them was ill. When they stopped, they saw the woman in the brush.
Because the woman was apparently killed by a vehicle on a state right-of-way, the investigation will fall to the Washington State Patrol.
The State Patrol issued a memo early Wednesday asking anyone with any possible information is asked to call Trooper Mullins at (360) 473-0300.
Because of the position of the body, it was initially difficult to tell whether it was a man or a woman. After detectives processed the scene, her correct gender was released.
Scott said Tuesday the condition of the body indicated she had been in the brush for at least several hours. The Sheriff’s Office was consulting with missing persons reports but so far had not found a match.
