The Grays Harbor County commissioners approved a separation agreement with an assistant probation counselor at Juvenile Detention Center during a special meeting on May 29.
County Commission Chairman Frank Gordon says that the county decided the position was no longer needed.
Counselor Steve Collette had worked for the county since 1980. The separation agreement has the county cover Collette’s medical insurance for the next two years at a cost of $14,404. The county also buys out his 360 hours of vacation time and 215.78 hours of sick time at a cost of about $14,500, according to Human Resources Director Marilyn Lewis.
Lewis notes that there will be an upfront cost, but the county will save money in the end by eliminating the position.
The agreement contained a confidentiality agreement, but was released to The Vidette using a public records request.
