We have several young people joining in the fight against the big fires in Eastern Washington. Alex Patton from Satsop is a volunteer fireman for the Grays Harbor District 5 and also an EMT. He spent a week fighting the fire by Leavenworth. Cory Scott from Satsop joined the Bald Eagle Fire Department and was fighting fires with the state Department of Natural Resources for two weeks. He is also a volunteer fireman at Montesano. Laura Friese, also from Satsop, was asked if she could come and help at the fires because in past years she has worked fires for the state Departmentof Natural Resources.
Laura helped familes get ready to evacuate at a minute’s notice and helped move cows to a safer area. She also helped flag for the PUD. Thank you to these three people and all the rest of the people who have helped with fighting the forest fires.
Continued prayers for everyone still in the area of the fires.
We lost a very special person this past week. Elsie Chiles lost her battle with cancer this week. Our prayers go out to her husband, Shawn, son Arron and daughter, Hailey. Our love is with all the family.
Meantime, it has been a slow week at the Borden home. We had trips to Olympia for doctor appointments and are getting ready to spend the next week at the fair.
On Friday, Dorothy McMaster and I attended the services for a classmate, Beverly Brophy, that was held at the McCleary VFW, Prayers are with that family. Prayers also to Ed Macke and sons in the loss of Jennifer Macke. I worked at the Elma Elementary back in the days when Jennifer taught there. She was a great teacher and always had a smile. Jennifer, you will be missed by many. Prayers also to the family of Florence Brown. She was our neighbor when we lived in Elma many years ago. Her and her husband, Bob, were two of the strongest supporters of all sports in Elma for many years. Prayers to her daughter, Sally, and family.
On Sunday morning at the Satsop Methodist Church, Bruce and Paultte Straughn and myself served the breakfast that is served the first Sunday of each month. Pastor K led the Sunday service. Prayers were asked for the families of Elsie Chiles, Bev Brophy, Jennifer Macke, Florence Brown and Billy Hooper. Prayers for healing were given for the two young boys from Satsop that were hurt in a bicycle accident. Pastor K shared the joy of the successful Vacation Bible School held at Elma; 68 children attended the classes. Pastor K and Myrna Manier served the Sunday communion.
The Grays Harbor Fair starts Wednesday.
Come and join the fun. Come and enjoy all the animals or check out all the quilts, baked goodies, flowers or just the fair food. Or maybe you like the carnival rides. I still love to ride the merry-go-round. That is about as wild of a ride I want to be on any more. Hope to see you. Have a good week.
My thought for the week: “If you count all your assets, you always show a profit.”
