Congratulations to both the Montesano and Elma drill teams for their performances in Yakima this past weekend. Montesano took first and Elma finished second. Great job, girls. Watching the girls perform is always a great enjoyment and I wish they had something like that when I was in high school.
For anyone willing to help, on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., a community work party will be held in Elma. This work party is put together by at least 10 of the East County churches. They will work at different locations throughout Elma doing work with students and adults. It will begin at the high school parking lot at 9 a.m., where tasks will be given to those who come to help. Bring yard tools with you if you have some. A barbecue lunch will be provided. Come and join the work party for a few hours or all day. Please contact Rev. Gunnar Ahlquist at the First Baptist Church in Elma (482-3455) if you are able to participate, so they can plan tasks and lunch.
If you are looking for something else to do on Saturday, come to Schafer State Park. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. for a day of cleaning up the park from the recent flooding and getting it ready for the upcoming season. They will take a lunch break at noon. Any questions call Stet Palmer at (360) 789-9953 or Gregory Johnson at (360) 612-3479 Also a reminder that at Lake Sylvia State Park on April 12, will be a Trillium Trek. Meet at the kitchen area on the beach at 2:30 p.m. and go for a hike and see what’s blooming. Any questions on the hike call (360) 249-2573.
On April 4 & 5, the Satsop Methodist Church will be having its big rummage sale. Doors open at 9 a.m. both days and stay open until 4 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. The bag sale is on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
Saturday, Bruce and Paulette Straughn enjoyed having both their sons , Jeff and Bruce, and their families join them for dinner to celebrate Bruce’s birthday. Two of the grandsons are spending a few days with them this week. I was asked to wish Joseph Smiley a happy birthday. He turned 14 on March 29.
Pastor K led the Sunday service at the Satsop Methodist Church. A welcome to Jim Barnum from Brady and Terry Bailey and Patricia Palmer from the E. Satsop Road for joining us on Sunday. Terry said he attended the Satsop church when he was a young boy. It’s always good to see new faces join us at church. Bruce Straughn and Cindy Nuxoll put coins in for their birthdays. We enjoyed the special music sang by the Elma/Satsop choir. Paulette Straughn shared the joy of having all their family together to celebrate Bruce’s birthday. Prayers were asked for all the families that are affected by the huge mudslide at Oso. Prayers also for all the volunteers that are searching through the mud. Prayers for Myrna Manier and Stephanie Parson and the rest of the group that are on the mission trip to Bolivia. Stephanie is so good about sending emails with lots of pictures of the people they work with. And a big thank-you to her husband, Ryan, for sending the emails on to many of us here in Satsop so we can see what they are doing. The happy faces of the children are wonderful when you see them playing with Stephanie. I want to thank Kathy Marsh for the note she sent me thanking us for having her on our prayer list, Kathy, we are all praying for you in your fight with cancer. As you said, “Miracles can happen.”
My thought for the week comes from Gail Parent: “She knew what all smart women knew: Laughter made you live better and longer.” I plan on laughing more every day. It’s good for the soul and makes the day brighter.
Have a good week.
