Ramers celebrate 50th anniversary

Dr. John Carl Ramer and Dr. Leah Sonya (Byles) Ramer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 26, 1963. The Ramers were married in Montesano and they eventually moved to Parkland, where Leah Ramer taught nursing at Pacific Lutheran University and Dr. Ramer was a psychologist at Western State Hospital.

John Ramer went on to retire as chief psychologist from the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Ind. Leah Ramer retired from Indiana State University as a professor Emerita of Nursing.

They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on a New Year’s cruise in the Bahamas on the Disney Dream. They were joined by all three of their children, their spouses and all five grandchildren.

Leah notes that she is the daughter of Chester N. Byles and the granddaughter of Frank W. Byles and her great-grandfather was an original pioneer settler in Montesano.
