Thousands of people are expected to pack the streets of downtown Montesano on Saturday

There should be 200 to 250 cars at the Historic Montesano Car Show on Saturday. Vehicles of all different ages and makes and models will line Main Street and Broadway Avenue in Montesano and for many of the visitors there will be that moment when they remember their first love that used to sit in the garage.

For those who want a chance to see vehicles from a bygone era, dream of owning a classic car or maybe find a ride just like the one they used to have, the car show will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cars come from all over Grays Harbor and neighboring counties and even from as far away as Alaska to be a part of the show. For event organizer Dave Foss, whose first love is the 1972 Camaro he purchased from Whitney’s and still owns, the show is a great way to show off the community of Montesano and the hard work individuals put into their vehicles, but mostly it is a great chance to meet new people with similar interests.

“I really enjoy visiting with the people and seeing the other cars,” Foss said. “Even if you have seen that car before, there are some cars you haven’t seen before and you get to visit with new friends and old friends. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a show that didn’t have some award, but most people don’t go for the awards, they go to have fun.”

The 12th Annual Historic Montesano Car Show starts at 8 a.m. with the cost being $15 or $10 with a food donation to the Montesano Food Bank. All kinds of cars are accepted. Awards are given out at about 2:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit local charities.

While the adults get a chance to see some classic cars, children will have a chance to celebrate the season with Kids Summer Fest. The annual event will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 19 in Fleet Park and provides lots of free fun. This year, the event includes gunny sack races, a water balloon toss, two bouncy houses, a live fish pond, face painting, an egg race, a monkey bridge, a hot dog eating contest and the Franz Super Slice.

There will also be tours of the historic courthouse led by County Commissioner Frank Gordon.

At the Montesano car show, Jay Staten says he hopes to bring his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, which he built from the ground up. He ended up selling the car some years back, but tracked it down and bought it back.

“I’ve talked to tons of people who have said I’d love to have this car back or that car back that I used to have back in high school and I can honestly say I am one of them that I did get my car back,” Staten said. “Getting in, driving it, I could have the worst day in the world and I can get in this car and fire it up and go for a drive and I’m instantly happy and the day just turns great.”
